Sean Archer drops beautifully chaotic new EP, Kung Ano Ano

Filipino newcomer Sean Archer captures the complexities of young adulthood in Kung Ano Ano—a gripping guitar-rock record released under Sony Music Entertainment.

Loosely translated as a “mixed bag,” Sean Archer’s latest release reflects the project’s collage-like nature. Rather than adhering to a singular theme, the EP embraces conceptual spontaneity in surprisingly riveting ways.

Kung Ano Ano is a collection of songs about different things, events, and people in my life,” shares the singer-songwriter/producer. It mirrors life as it is: chaotic, impulsive, but meaningful.”

Produced and written by Sean Archer, each track offers a deeply personal narrative drawn from Archer’s lived experiences and observations, fusing brash, unapologetic songwriting with punk rock grit.

Ayoko Na Sa Labsong” delivers anthemic pop-punk sweetness with bite, tackling the vulnerability of rediscovering love. “Ekis” and “Maskara” confront toxic relationships and the act of cutting ties, while “Anoba” dabbles into the ambiguity of situationships.

Other standout tracks include “Anik Anik,” which delivers a sharp critique on consumerism, and focus track “Photobooth,” which highlights the incredible beauty of capturing intimate, everyday moments with a loved one.

The latter showcases a more accessible side of Sean Archer, with its stripped-down arrangement and heartfelt earnestness evoking a carefree, almost cinematic feeling of love that thrives in simplicity. “I wrote Photobooth in like an hour and didn’t pay much attention to it initially,” the young, multi-talented artist shares. “Habang nabubuo yung EP, it turned into something special. Rico Blanco convinced me that it should be the focus track. The song is about going on a date with my girlfriend, aimlessly walking or commuting to places devoid of complications and flashy things. It’s simple and honest, and is also a huge contrast to the other tracks, which makes it special to me.”

Sean Archer’s latest release builds on his debut EP, Banda Ka Nang Banda, with newfound openness in songwriting and production. This time around, he approaches his new record with greater intention and creative control: the lyrics, sharper and more refined, and the arrangements more intense, but never lacking in introspection.

With Kung Ano Ano, Sean Archer invites listeners to find beauty in the ordinary. As Sean Archer puts it, “Sometimes, we don’t need to go places to find something beautiful. We just need to look around us, and maybe we’ll find something beautiful to write about.”

Sean Archer’s “Kung Ano Ano” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.
